Antique Kurdish rug

Circa 1890
220 × 143 cm 7’2” x 4’8”
£5,950

Description

A wooly tribal Antique Kurdish rug woven by Kurdish weavers near north Persia.  Often they will use this repeating latch-hook design in the centre.  With these rugs it is all about the colours and being an early piece the are very subtle and varied.  In very good condition the Kurdish people used soft highland wool which makes this rug light to handle and although coarse in its weave it is refined in many ways.

The older dyes have faded beautifully and it would make for a lovely fire side rug.

Kurdish rugs are rugs woven by the Kurdish people in Middle East, predominantly the larger Kurdistan region including south Caucasus and north-western Persia.  This is primarily where the rug weaving industry was and still is today.

We offer the service of viewing any of our carpets & rugs in-situ in London, Surrey, Hampshire & the UK by appointment.  Please contact us if you would like to see this rug at home below.
